What is included in a Eulogy package?

• A 60–75-minute interview. During this interview, I will establish how long a eulogy you’re hoping to deliver. (Most are between three and eight minutes.) I will also determine the tone you’re looking to strike – warm and solemn? Formal and philosophical?  I will also ask you simple questions about your loved one and what they meant to you and others. This will feel gentle and conversational.  It’s my hope that you will feel cared for and supported during this process – instead of the stress of writing a public speech, you can talk to me about the person you love instead.
• I write the 500-2,500-word eulogy on your behalf.
• We meet a second time to discuss revisions, which we will make in real time.
• We meet once more for 30-60 minutes. We will discuss strategies for “getting through it” and we’ll practice it together as well, so that when you stand up to give the eulogy, you will feel prepared.

Our first meeting will be recorded so that I can review what I learned while I’m writing. Most people are both busy preparing for a funeral and grieving, and I prefer not to contact clients for clarification unless completely necessary. Having a recording to review helps me immensely. As soon as the eulogy is complete, the recording is deleted.

I understand that unlike most other events, a funeral is often unexpected and comes with an inflexible timeline. The time span between our first and final meeting is often three days or less.

Am I the right fit?

The eulogies I write tend to be heartfelt, warm, and filled with stories that allow people to cry (and sometimes even laugh) together as they mourn. My eulogies are best for those who are looking to deliver something secular and focused on their loved one and the life they led (though of course a person’s faith and religious life can be a big part of that.)  My goal in writing a eulogy is to help those who are grieving to honor their loved one and to begin to heal.
